Outfit Post - Monochrome

I love color (mostly red, as I'm sure you've guessed by now) but all colors are wonderful.

I love to mix and match, pair them in different unexpected combinations...but after a while, I find myself using the same color combos over and over again.  When that happens, it's time to "cleanse my palette" with some good old neutrals.

After a day or so of not worrying about color pairing, new combinations suddenly become clear to me again.  I'm looking forward to spending the weekend gathering color ideas to see what fun pairs I can come up with next!

Outfit Post - There's No Place Like Home

I got some serious grief over these shoes, friends.  They're red..they sparkle..the men in my life asked if I was worried about flying monkeys or witches.  I care not..they're flashy and they make me smile ;)

Outfit Post - Comfy Cozy

Some days you just need an outfit that feels like a great big hug.  This is one of those days.

Outfit Post - Absinthe

Up until a few years ago, I firmly believed that I could not wear the color green, as I was certain it washed me out and gave my skin a yellow cast.  Until I discovered this particularly vibrant shade (kelly green, maybe?) that brightens up my face and makes my eyes look peacock blue.  Now I'm totally in love with it ;-)

Do you have a particular shade that you like to wear?

Outfit Post - Hooray for Fall!

The weather her in NH has finally started to cool down!  I'm in the process of transitioning my fall wardrobe over and packing my summer items away.  When I came across this jacket (a favorite!) I knew I had to wear it today :)

Outfit Post - Channeling Daisy Buchanen

Since cutting my hair short (and subsequently wanting to grow it long again) I've noticed a decidedly 1920's influence on my style.  I'm still in search of the perfect drop waist dress, though!  I may end up having to make one myself.  I did purchase a really nifty 1920's sewing book in my travels last weekend ;-)

Outfit Post - Bobbed Hair and Coral Scarf

It's been a while since I did an outfit post!  Bet you were forgetting what I looked like ;-)  Well, here I am with my brand new haircut.  A little shorter than I'm comfortable with, but after it grows a little, I think it will work just fine.

I also finished up my coral scarf using this pattern.  It's VERY simple and great if you just want something to work on without having to thing about it.  I may try it next with a bigger hook and larger yarn for a more tree branch-like effect.

Outfit Post - Casual Tuesday

This is the only pair of shorts I own.  (Though I do have two "rompers").  I usually wear them to work in the garden, but since today is my last day of work before I head out for my mini vacation, I figured I'd be comfy ;-)

Outfit Post - Rainy Days and Mondays

Hooray for haircuts!  I'm so relieved to have my hair back in some semblance of order.  I always THINK I want to grow it out again, but the truth is, I really love the ease and tidiness of a bob ;-)

Outfit Post - XOXO

Most days I decide what I'm going to wear the night before..some days I dress last minute in a flash just before I run out the door.  Today was one of those days (hence the damp hair ;-)  Fortunately, I have a few standbys that are easy to throw on and accessorize!

Outfit Post - Hearts Ease

I have a dear family friend that owns a florist and gift shop in the next town over from mine.  (Her son took me to my 8th grade graduation dance ;-)

She has a passion for antiques, particularly from the 1800's, and she has unearthed some amazing treasures, including this beautiful vintage tortoiseshell comb that she gave me as a gift.

I stop by her shop often to buy little treasures, see what new items she's unearthed and to ask her advice on things like cleaning vintage garments, or figuring out the genesis of an item.

The little felted brooch is something she made as well.  In the 1800's, it was referred to as "hearts ease".  I just love that name and it's implications.  It always makes me smile when I wear it :)

Outfit Post - The Exception

I'm making an exception to my "no outfit posts in above 80 degree weather" rule because I'm not wearing a dress today and that all by itself is an exception ;)  In general, I wear pants maybe once or twice a month (unless I'm working in the yard).  I don't find them particularly comfortable, but if I can find them in fun colors or styles, I'll wear them once in a while.  I just couldn't pass up purple pants :)

Outfit Post - 19 "Something"

This weekend I attended an estate sale.  The woman who had resided in this home had more clothing that ANYONE I have ever seen.  Huge walk in closets, bureaus full of stuff, rooms filled with clothing, knitting, sewing..it was amazing.  Most of the items were 60's/70's (though I did find some great 1940's knitting patterns).  Some of the dresses I picked up will be going on my website, but I decided to keep this one for myself because I was so crazy about the color.  When I put it on this morning, my hubby told me I looked very "Nineteen-something".  He still gets bonus points for recognizing vintage ;-)

Outfit Post - Snow White and Rose Red

The necklace featured in this post is one that I created for the "Once Upon a Time" series.  I fell so much in love with it, that I decided I couldn't possibly part with it ;)

Outfit Post - Under the Sea

This top is soooo comfy.  It's very light and floaty, so perfect for a warm summer day.  The thick lace on the bottom reminds me of a net, so I decided to accessorize with sea-like accents for a mermaid-like feel.

Outfit Post - Jiminy Cricket!

I love this little cricket brooch.  He was a gift from my Mum and he makes me think of Jiminy Cricket.  He's my conscience ;)

I put a picture of the back of my hair in this post because I wanted to share how easy it is to have an "updo" even with short hair!  I pulled it back in a banana clip (you recall those from the 80's, yes?) and pinned strands of hair around the clip to cover it.  That's it!  It even catches the shorter hairs at the base of my neck :)

Outfit Post - Jean Arthur Wannabe

I love this 1940's dress.  It reminds me of something Jean Arthur would wear in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington...and since I have a HUGE crush on Jimmy Stewart, that makes it perfect ;-)

Outfit Post - I Never Promised You a Rose Garden

Today I'm wearing a maxi dress because I didn't want to wear anything "binding".  I'm allergic to gluten, but I'm terrible about sticking to a gluten free diet (I sooooo love a good cupcake..)  Sadly, as tasty as gluten is, it makes me feel achy and bloated.  Sooo I've decided with the warmer weather heading our way, the last thing I want is to feel yucky.  Today I begin a "detox diet".  Wish me luck :)

Outfit Post - Mighty Aphrodite

I went through a brief phase in my teens where I was obsessed with Greek mythology.  I read everything I could get my hands on.  (Sadly, there was no Percy Jackson available at the time ;)  Aphrodite won a place in my heart that she has held ever since, so when I stumbled across this lovely brooch at the Brimfield Antique Market a few years ago, I was ecstatic (and that's putting it mildly).  Isn't she pretty?
