..It's "go time"..

Credit

Well, friends, it looks like it's time to put up or shut up.

A few months ago, I ordered my bridesmaid's dress for my adorable cousin's wedding.  I had put it off a bit because I had just started eating gluten free due to my allergies and I had been losing weight.

It arrived today..and it won't zip over my bust (honestly, I've always been a bit larger in the ribcage area..but I have noticed that it's not entirely ribs of late..it would appear that my weight leveled off and adjusted to my new diet).  GAH!

The dress cannot be returned or exchanged, and (as my fellow sewists can attest to) it's nearly impossible to size a dress up.  There's about an inch gap where the zipper should meet between my shoulder blades.  This basically leaves me with one choice..lose weight.

I have 10 weeks until the wedding (and really, 8 is more realistic, since I'm going to need to be able to fit into the dress comfortably at least a few weeks prior to the wedding, just in case I have to come up with a plan B).  It's do-able..I figure a 10lb loss would be enough (15 would be even better), so that means about 2lbs a week, which is reasonable.  I don't really have too much trouble with the diet front..I can manage just fine with more veggies and cut out my sugar intake..it's the exercise that kills me.  And it's going to be crucial.

There is a silver lining, though.  My doctor has suggested for years that more exercise will help with my anxiety and migraines.  Maybe this will end up being the best thing EVER.

I've hung the dress on the back of my door as a reminder...I'll keep you all posted on my progress ;)  Wish me luck!

Hugs and Smooches,
D

(PS.  As a humorous side note, my youngest daughter just leaned around my laptop and said "Whatcha doin' Mom?  Writing on your blob?"  Ohhh, how appropriate, lol.)

  1. Now that I'm all over laughing about the "blob" comment, let me just say that I'm with you. I've put on eight-ish pounds in the last two months and I am taking it OFF before it decides it wants to live here permanently :D So I'm cracking down hard on sugars and starches, my mortal nemeses - I'll cheer for you if you'll cheer for me!

  2. I NEED to join you in this crusade....I am feeling like THE blob. Lost 30 lbs between New Years and April-ish and then fell off the wagon. Do you think we could start a Facebook group or something?!? I need a kick in the butt to lose my last 15-20 pounds!

  3. I tried to start a group (Slim Down, Pin Up!) but I can't invite you because you're a page and not a personal profile. I'd invite someone else but I have a feeling my FB friends might be offended if I randomly invited them to lose weight! HAHA!

    1. Love the name! You can invite me from my personal page (Danielle Hanley Hinton). I'll let the other ConstantlyAlice followers know to leave a comment on the page if they want an invite!

  4. Try Leslie Sansone's walk away the pounds tapes. I did and lost inches all over in the matter of two-three weeks. SERIOUSLY!!! I did not lose weight, but since you are more interested in losing inches, I highly recommend it. There are different walks and it makes you feel great afterwards!

If you chose to try it, I really hope you like it. I know I did!

  5. If I were you I would look into some yoga classes. I hated exersizing as well but found yoga to be my saving grace. It is about challanging yourself not others so no compotion which I hate. and it is about doing what you can now but striving for better and knowing that it is not going to happen over night. I would start out with a Hatha yoga class. This will also help you with the anxity since at the end of class there is a short meditaion and callming called shavasina or corps pose. How could anyone not like a work out that ends with you laying on the ground relaxing for a bit. Something tells me that since you are a dancer you may already know about this. That being said if this is old news sorry. I have a friend who is also a dancer she takes a "ballet" class every Tuesday, the class is great for people who want to stay in shape and know dance. It has been taught quietly in her area for 20 years so something tells me there may be one out buy you. I am never a fan of losing weight for an event but you are not me and I am not your mother so I will keep the lecture to myself and wish you the best of luck.

    1. Yoga is a great idea (and something I can do with my girls :) I agree with you that losing for an event isn't ideal. Truthfully, though, nothing else so far has motivated me to start moving, even my health. I used to love to dance and run, but it seems like I have so much on my plate now that by the time I can squeeze some in, I'm too exhausted. So perhaps this will be a blessing in disguise (and the kick in the pants I need to get moving ;)
